Garrison Starr cracks me up. She just does. Two Southern refugees, we circled around each other in Los Angeles in the mid-90s and finally connected 10 years later in Nashville. From that point on, we were insta-buddies. Part of what brought us together – in addition to multiple mutual acquaintances – was her contribution to Songs for a Broken Heart. I’m just glad to know her.
G. Starr’s latest solo release, The Girl That Killed September, also won me over as a fan of her work which I hadn’t necessarily been prior to that. It’s a cool record, raw and gutsy. I’m also looking very forward to her upcoming collaboration with Josh Joplin called Among the Oak and Ash.
